ADKAR
The model-based one
The ADKAR model is genuinely good and useful for the active change leader, because it helps you direct your attention towards five elements or themes that you need to focus on in particular in order to create change – both for the individual and for the organisation. Together the five elements form the acronym ADKAR: Awareness, Desire, Knowledge, Ability and Reinforcement. As change leaders, then, we must make sure to create awareness of the change, create the desire to go along with the change, ensure that people have the knowledge and the abilities required to bring about the change and, not least, we must make sure that the change becomes embedded in the culture. The book is short, concise and very practical in its approach. It is built up of very short chapters that work rigorously through the model and, not least, which factors influence each of the five elements. In that way it is both high-level and concretely action-oriented. And it is a really good place to start when you are planning your change project.
